In a recent report, the U.S. National MS Society wrote: "At this point, no connection has been confirmed between CCSVI and MS, in fact, CCSVI appears to occur in many people who do not have MS."

At this point, no connection has been confirmed between CCSVI and MS, in fact, CCSVI appears to occur in many people who do not have MS BUT AT LOWER RATES THAN IN THOSE WHO DO HAVE MS.

That last part is significant and intriguing but it is left out of the US National MS Society's message.

What the U.S. National MS Society meant to say was this, I think they were misquoted.


"The U.S. National MS Society would like to extend a heartfelt apology to the greater MS community. For the past 60 years we have ignored our founding member's, Dr. Tracy J. Putnam, theory that MS is primarily a disease of the brain veins. Dr. Putnam was an esteemed Harvard professor who spent his career teaching that MS was a neurovascular disease. He even gave MS to dogs by twisting their jugulars.

We sincerely apologize for having fallen into group think mentality that so many do-gooding non-profits succumb to. Although you may think that we are really only a national Mouse-EAE society we do actually care about humans with MS. And although we have cured EAE in mice many times, from this day forward, if we hear from our human members, who say they feel better after an out-patient jugular venoplasty, we will rejoice and celebrate their improved health. It may comfort you to learn that we are now taking the MS Walk moneys and sending them to Mousekeeter’s Annette Funicello Foundation, and we will not kill any more mice through giving them EAE."
