Too expensive
Too expensive
Well I was about to receive a 30 day supply of Ampyra. But when the pharmacy informed me of the cost, I cancelled it. I have a high deductible in my Rx insurance so the 30 day supply would cost me over $1400!
And the second month would be almost as much.
I could afford to pay it but I simply refuse to do it. That cost is outrageous! They can shove it.

Re: Too expensive
Find someone someone physically close to you (I am in Australia, and have no idea which country you are in?), or a compounding pharmacy that uses physical mail, and get your doctor to write out a script for it, ie 4-AP, not Fampyra (ie the brand name) I get 100 5mg capsule made up in slow release, and take about 4 spread over the day. The cost for 100x5mg (ie around a month) is about $60AUD.
The only complaint I have is that i don't think the pharmacy "protects" its source from the atmosphere as the brand name packaging does (which affects its strength)

Re: Too expensive
Thanks for the info. I did find one only a few miles from my home. I emailed them to see if they can do it. We'll see what they say.

Re: Too expensive
Did you ever get this compound form done? My husband has been offered the name brand...must be 12 hours apart and watch for signs of epileptic fits ( or is that just epileptics just can't take ampyra?).
Week, he hates to take any drug and at the moment does nothing but diet but he has decided to give this a go, despite his fear....
I'd love to see some updates from people on this forum...

Try Skip's Pharmacy in FLorida.
Re: Too expensive
I will be losing my private insurance & will be going with a plan where medicare d is used for prescriptions. They have terrible coverage for ampyra. Does anyone know the requirements for ampyra assistance when on medicare d & not private insurance?

Re: Too expensive
My part d coverage is with Cigna Medicare RX Secure Extra, I'm now through the coverage gap (aka "donut hole") and my Ampyra out of pocket cost is less than $100 per month. I wouldn't call this terrible coverage.nellie wrote:I will be losing my private insurance & will be going with a plan where medicare d is used for prescriptions.
