Because after a doctor-determined interval you are said to have "converted", and are no longer worth the money because treatment might fail. Let's face it, MS is a diagnosis that relegates you too the backwaters of medicine, where nothing is acute enough anymore, doctors and nurses just laugh at you, and it is a race to see who can relieve you of any money you might have left, before you die.
