Weird question about steroid treatment.

So is it possible to be having steroid side effects 10 months down the road?

I recently had a flare up that consisted of losing feeling and sensation from my hips down and the "ms hug". Along with all the little things like eye pain, cramping, brain fog, tiredness etc.

Now, I did not get steroids this time around and I just waited it out. All my symptoms are gone and I feel "normal" again. But recently though I feel like I am having the side effects of a steroid treatment that I remember happening through the 3 times I have gotten treatments in my life. The last one was early this year, and one late last year.

My skin is incredibly broken out, I am peeing non stop, I cant sleep and cant stop eating lol. I also feel like I have had mood swings as well. It is not that I cant sleep its just when I wake up whether its 4-5 hours or 10 hours I have too much energy to go back to sleep. Many days I wake up after 3-4 hours of sleep and will be up for the day.

is it possible for my body to be overproducing cortisol? Or something like that?

The only recent changes I have made is that I am working out 6 days a week instead of 4 and I am no longer managing a restaurant 54 hours a week. I am on a proper diet, proper nutrients/supplements, strict weight lifting and exercising and i also take copaxone. I was diagnosed early this year and set that regimen up then. I am 25 (almost 26  ) years old and male.

Thanks for any input,

Chris

i can't tell you anything about side effects of steroid treatments unfortunately, but it sounds like you've maybe experienced 'side effects' of relapse before, moreso than steroids??? plausible?

wondering if you would consider dropping in to a lab for a round of bloodwork? might be an idea to test whether your current excellent regimen in fact has put all your levels in the right ballpark.. or if there is instead some kind of imbalance going on.. along the lines of everything being higher maybe, but maybe something in the mix is *too* high, in relation to something else. maybe there could be something amiss with combinations and/or timing of supplement intakes. thinking out loud :)

It would be unlikely that you would be affected by the steroids that you took so many months ago at this time. That is probably a good question for your doctor.

As far as your other symptoms, they could be related to a flare up. Your skin issue could be an allergic reaction. There is also a possibility that you could be having an allergic reaction to the Copaxone. As far as your appetite, working out 6 times a week could keep you on the hungry side. Are you gaining weight?

Glad to hear you lightened your work load. That will definitely help you now and over the long run.

One last thought. When you work out, are you over doing it? Are you getting hot? I find when I overdo it with exercise (I am not talking so much about quantity but more with regard to intensity) and/or get hot from the exercise I am doing, I don't feel so great.

Yeah I am gaining stupid weight lol.I have put close to 10 pounds on since I started working out 6 days.

Yes I get hot when I work out now. Before, when I was in the flare up I took it way easy. I go as far as my body will let me go. I know what it feels like when I over do it and I very much so try to avoid it. When I am not in a flare up I have no problem with heat our fatigue. But during a flare up I cant handle heat near as well as normal.

The main reason I don't think its related to a flare up is that I feel really good again. All my symptoms are gone and nothing is really bothering me. Also I have had these same things happen before, and it was before I started copaxone. But at the same time I am not saying it is not related to a flare up. Maybe this is just what it is for me. I just don't know haha.

I have been wanting to get blood work again to see where I am at with my levels. Ill have to get around to doing that soon.

Chris, consider wearing a cooling vest when you work out. It may help. I find it helps me when I go for long bike rides and it is warm out.

Thanks to you both.

And don't get me wrong, I feel INCREDIBLE right now. I am so full of energy and just feel really well. That's why I don't think these few things are related to my relapse. But who knows, it is what it is.
