Hi there. My mum was diagnosed with MS around 15 years ago. She has progressed very fast over the years and is now bedridden and cannot move. This year so far she has been diagnosed with pneumonia twice, broken her hip, UTI and has spent a lot of time in hospital. I guess I'm wanting to know is this the beginning of the end? I feel so guilty but i just want it to be over for her. This is such a cruel disease. I feel for everyone of you that are living with this.

Hi,
Is it near the end? I don't know but you have offered a very useful clue regarding her health.
Has she been tested for chlamydia pneumonia or mycoplasma pneumonia? Both can create havoc if left untreated.
MS is like peeling an onion. There are many layers and each one needs to be dealt with as its own problem. Whilst there are various ideas on a cause (eg EBV which I, in part, agree with) nothing is definitive because its likely multifactorial. Check for those infections and get them dealt with if they are there. Both are treatable. Not treating them strikes me as very unfair on any patient but if doctors don't look then they will trot out the usual "it's MS" line and that is just illogical and unfair. I do hope you find something and some relief can be provided.
Regards
