What I found interesting is that whether or not the medical profession is telling us to take vitamin D those of us with MS are taking the initiative and taking on average between 2,000 and 5,000iu a day. Myself I take 8,000iu a day and have been for over 10 years since I was dx. When I had asked my doctor about vitamin d ten years ago he said stay to the 400iu a day recommended amount, of course I did not and am glad for it. We have to do what we believe is best for us and let the medical profession catch up when they can.

RDA recommended daily allowances are completely innacurate. In Australia the RDA for infants is 200i.u. Infants produce that much D in 7 seconds of sunlight exposure! Within 20 minutes of sunshine (10am-3pm) someone in shorts/t-shirt produces 10,000i.u. of D so taking upwards of this amount is safe to take daily.
