Like many on this website, I experienced fatigue following an MS attack. Prior to the first obvious signs of MS, I also had problems with insomnia. I was wondering if others also experienced sleep problems prior to their MS.

yes i did, i had trouble getting to sleep for years and was an extremely light sleeper.
when i had my attack all of a sudden all i wanted to do was sleep. i have worked my way out of the lethargy, and am back to being a pretty light sleeper, but i am not having the same issues about getting to sleep, that i used to.

I am extremely tired through out the day, but when its time to sleep, I can't turn my mind off. Here is is now, 10:39 PM Seattle time, and I have to be up at 4. Damnit....

I have historically had many problems sleeping. I am caffeine sensitive, and cant drink cofee or cola, and expect to sleep at night. This was exacerbated by the fact that i was mis-diagnosed, and prescribed prednisone, which keeps me up even more.
I have noticed that in recent times, i have been pretty good with sleep. I have also noticed in the last year, that if i am given the chance, an afternoon nap is a possibility. But this could be just old age creeping in...
I remember reading one site (quite a while ago) that said (unsupported, & selling the info, and simply my memory), the body heals itself during REM sleep, so by missing out on REM, MS bodies dont have the time to heal.

sorry to hear about the sleep difficulties...i've always been a light sleeper and had an irregular sleep pattern...i wonder how prevalent insomnia is for those with MS prior to their first attack or diagnosis...BTW...stella...you might find it helpful to turn your clock away...although it is tempting, having it in view can actually add to the sleep problems
