New research: Vitamin D boosts remyelination

Researchers at the University of Cambridge set out to find what controls oligodendrocyte progenator cells (OPCs) ability to differentiate and create myelin--and discovered that it is Vitamin D which binds and activates vitamin D receptors and controls myelin sheath regeneration. In fact, remyelination of axons is impaired when Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is blocked.

In 2015, researchers further explored how Vitamin D decreases gray matter atrophy in MS, reduces symptoms and promotes endothelial health. More reasons to optimize Vitamin D levels.
Looks like Dr. Embry and Direct-MS were on to something 10 years ago...glad they funded the research!

More on this research.
Remyelination has been the holy grail for many...surprised this isn't getting more traction on the board.
When scientists added vitamin D to brain stem cells (which have both vitamin D and RXR gamma receptors), production of oligodendrocytes increased 80 percent

Anecdotally, Jeff's last MRI showed his nasty cervical lesion has shrunk, and is remyelinated.

Hi,

Towards the end of the link there is a note which points out this was achieved in a dish where Vit D was added to brain cells. Not quite a large scale human trial.
It did mention RXR which I have banged on about before. The RXR controls a group of thyroid like receptors which include VDR.
I always thought that VDR is like a light in the ceiling. It won't work if the power is off at the main switchboard no matter how many times you flick the switch on the wall. The RXR is the main switch. To upregulate it you need 9cis retinoic acid, hence why I suggest adding carrot juice as a safe way of adding that.

Regards,

Hi everyone,

My brother and a friend of mine follow the protocol of high doses of: Vitamin D, DHA 500 and vitamins and minerals (Coimbra's protocol).

Check the evolution of my friend below. Maybe it's a evidence that vitamin D boosts remyelination.

She follows the treatment for 3 years and a half.

You should read them from left to right.

- Number 7 in all images are the first MRI exam made in 08/27/2013
- Number 5 in all images are the second MRI exam made in 04/05/2014
- Number 4 in all images are the third MRI exam made in 11/05/2014

Each image (1,2,3 and 4) represents a MRI made in different angles.
