Flare or Pseudoexacerbation?

Hi All! I diagnosed with MS about 1 year ago and had something new happen I would like to get some insight on. I recently had a UTI and a couple of days into it, the whole right side of my face went numb and tingly and my head was tingly as well. This lasted for a good 4-5 days. I have had the numbness and tingling before, but only in my legs and feet. I know a pseudo exacerbation is usually a flare up of old symptoms, but are they usually in the same spot? Would the tingling and numbness be a relapse since it's in a different location that I havent' experienced those symptoms before or would it just be a pseudo exacerbation?

Hi cruth90,
Causes of pseudo exacerbations includes the flu, virus, infection, exercise, overdoing it, and heat. Pseudo exacerbations cause a temporary increase in old/existing symptoms, although new symptoms isn't as common they can happen. Once the cause (the flu, virus, infection, exercise, overdoing it, and heat) resolves your symptoms should return to what is normal for you.
Your symptoms increased due to the UTI once the antibiotics were able to improve the infection your symptoms would start to improve and is a pseudo exacerbation. A true exacerbation is in absence of fever or infection.

Thanks so much for that insight Snoopy! I wasn't sure whether I should call my neuro or not, especially since I have never had the numbness/tingling in my face. So you think even with the same symptoms in a different location, I would be having a pseudoexacerbation?
