Hey all,

Has anyone here every experienced the Hug? I think that's what I'm feeling, but it's not quite "painful" yet, and it's around my torso, not my chest.

Over the last few weeks, slowly my belly, sides, and back have gone numb. I'm pretty much used to it, but the past few days I feel like I have saran wrap is wound around me tightly, and that I've had an epidural! Also, I feel like I'm pregnant again, and have a baby's foot up in between my ribs and my lungs. It's also hard for me to bend over, or stand up straight as if I had a super tight gurdle around my belly.

I have other numbing and tingling.... but this hug thing is new to me.

sounds like the hug. i had it early on before i figured out much nutrition wise.

haven't had it again since that first bout 10 yrs ago. around the same time i had shortness of breath which i eventually decided was spastic diaphragm, magnesium helped with that.

i don't remember anything specific associated with the hug clearing up, too long ago. a momentary repeat on the shortness of breath is the closest i've come to the hug phenomenon at all in recent years. there are so many body warning signs re low mag (eg muscle stiffness/cramps, headache, menstrual cramps, anxiety, sometimes for me visual migraine) that it never has a chance to get that bad now, before i'm upping my daily magnesium intake to correct.

most ppl don't retain enough magnesium from food and fluids, sometimes not even from supplements. and there are meds which can deplete, alcohol, too much calcium, the list goes on.

if none of these are in your *daily* routine, could be time to up the ante

numbers-wise, you can aim for 7-10 mg per kg body weight per day from food. for all the leafy greens, those measures are cooked/wilted leaves to achieve that magnesium nutrient density. to retain the highest nutrient levels without overdoing oxalic acid in leafy greens, it's a 3 min boil for chard, 1 min boil for spinach, and kale can be steamed 5 mins.

one user who was here some time ago, pregnant, and with numbness and tingling turned out to be taking her prenatals at half the intended dose by accident. even doubled it had low zinc so i suggested she up that and the numbness/tingling went away. then the doc said stop taking the extra zinc and the numbness/tingling returned. so i said, i think you have your answer, and back the added zinc went into the routine. she came back on later, happy, to say all her issues had resolved. the same site with the magnesium food list has pages for all the essential nutrients including zinc if you are interested

Everything Jimmy legs said is good advice. My suggestion, though, is you go to a hospital or a doctor and explain what is happening. In my case two chambers of my heart had stopped beating and I just thought it was a bad hug. I ended up in cardiology and needed a lot of care during a three week stay. After that I had 12 months in rehab and have made substantial changes to my lifestyle which have all been beneficial.

The moral of the story is don't guess. Get someone to check you as more can be going on than you realise.

Oh wow. Thanks guys! I have an appointment with my doctor at the end of the month, so I'll see where I am at that time.

Since I posted my question..... I was actually prescribed a high dose of prednisone. Fingers crossed that it works! I'm kind of freaked out about the side effects, because I'm taking 1,250 mls a day, for 3 days! Eeeeeek!!!! Going to start it today... wish me luck!
