I have had mild foot drop for several years. I recently came across a new 'high tech' brace called XTERN. Unlike most AFOs that fit partially inside the shoe which makes them uncomfortable, the XTERN is as its name suggests, is totally outside the shoe, or external. It is not only more comfortable, but also much more effective. And unbelievably light weight. I had been using a couple of carbon fiber braces up until now which helped me somewhat but are very uncomfortable.
The XTERN is covered by most insurances. Their company arranged everything for me including dealing with my insurance company. A doctor's prescription is required.
