Welcome Tidbits for the "Second Half"

Post by JanethePain »

Guess what? During my visit last Friday for Week 52/0, I got some news "hot off the press" for us.

We will no longer have to endure that "memory/math" torture with the Hal9000 voice. This is a real relief--I was a wreck before each and every one of those "tests." It was too much of a habit to make a running total of those numbers... I'm sure my b/p spiked 50 points during those few minutes!

For the moment, I've misplaced the copy of the protocol but as soon as I find it, I'll be back with "a burning question."

In the meantime, let us all rejoice that we'll only have to put up with MRIs every six months! YIPPEE!!!

Hey Jane,

My site must have not gotten that memo. My first two dose visits I have had to do it; the PASAT math thingy I mean.

The study coordinator told me the newsflash had pretty much "just happened." Knowing I won't have to do it anymore made it a bit easier "adding" during that final visit... I really think we should have a "throw the cd player AND the tape into a river near you" party...

I find it strangely comforting. And I think I only made 1 mistake in all of the ones I did in first year. :-)

It's a fun party game after people have had a few beers though. And among my 40+ age group, any mention of a memory test is sure to cause acid reflux even among the otherwise healthy. mwahahahaha

And for fun:
http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/conten ... a783682986
This study investigated the effects of test anxiety, intelligence, arithmetic ability, and age on the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT) performance of 45 participants ages 16 to 54. Level of anxiety as measured by a short form measure of state anxiety and retrospective report during the PASAT appeared to have no significant effect on performance. Intelligence and arithmetic ability, however, together accounted for 46% of the variance on PASAT scores. Although no significant correlation was found between PASAT performance and age, those over 26 years of age performed significantly better on the 2.0 second paced presentation.

It doesn't say that the self-induced stress from the PASAT test gave you residual pseudo-relapse symptoms...

No more PASAT???? Oh no....I am sooo sad....Geez I hate that test. And I am a math major! LOL!

I wonder if they took the blood pressure on people while they were taking that test. Or if they just watched their eyes go blank!

The wages of "bragging" sins are furnishing all of us with Cheetos and chocolate of our choices. I'll take "crunchy" and Junior Mints.

Alas, I think administering these tests does have a certain attraction for the quasi-sadists among us. 8O
