Clonazepam ( Klonopin ) is an anticonvulsant primarily used in the treatment of seizure disorders. Clonazepam ( Klonopin ) is a member of a class of drug known as benzodiazepines. This drug may also be used as an antianxiety, for the short-term relief of mild to moderate anxiety. Clonazepam ( Klonopin ) may also be used to treat movement disorders ( e.g., Touette's Syndrome), panic disorder, drug-induced mania, to help resistant depression, nocturnal myoclonus, relieve trigeminal neuralgia, bipolar affective disorder, and to help control certain types of petit mal, atypical, akinetic, myoclonic, or absence seizures.
my neuro thinks this may help my spasticity.

Robbie,
I take clonazepam for anxiety only, and it works very well for me.
I hope it provides relief for your spasticity.

Hey Robbie...
It really helps for spasms. Jeff takes it on the nights his legs are flying, and it relaxes the muscles and helps him sleep. It makes you feel kind of "spacey" he said-lasts about 12 hours. Hope it brings some relief-

whereas anxiety is the result of threats that are perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable.
i really need something, does it work right away or do you have to be on it for a while to feel any affects ?

Again, for anxiety it works right away for me. I originally got it for flying but use it on occasion for anxiety in my daily living. At first I felt a little spacey from it, but not anymore. It makes me quit playing horror movies in my head ( I suffer from GAD - generalized anxiety disorder). I can rationalize much better on bad days when I take it

I took it too for spasms and for anxiety. It worked well and I got off of it when I thought I was taking too may drugs. But, I think I am going to have to get back on it when I go back to the DR in December.

Hi Robbie
I took Clonazepamm for a while for leg spasms and insomnia. I found although it worked very well for those things I was very "hungover" from the drug the next day and didn't feel like I'd slept properly. I was quite dopey until about 4pm the next day.
I am now taking low dose amitriptyline (elavil) - 25mg for nerve pain, mild spasms and insomnia and that is working superbly. Really I am a new woman on amitriptyline, I sleep well, the nerve pain is gone and I feel rested.
As an aside I suffered terrible anxiety all my life really (one of my parents has chronic anxiety/depression and we grew up with thinking like that). I realised I had OCD - checking oven off/doors shut ad nauseum each night. I never told my doctor becuase I felt ashamed of the anxiety. But amitriptyline had got rid of that too - a very welcome side effect.
It also stopped nocturia because it can make it harder for you to pass urine so all in all the "side effects" of amitriptyline relieved me of quite a few symptoms.
Sorry for long winded post but just wanted to let you know all the things Elavil has affected - they might be things that bother you too.....hope you find something that works for the spasms, they are a horrible symptom.

Hi Robbie -
I took Clonazepamm for a while when I was first diagnosed. Like WonderfulWorld, it made me a zombie the following day, and my legs worked like they were "wet noodles". Needless to say I stopped - hope it will work for you.

it's been 3 days now and no affect on the spasticity but it sure is good if you feel like a nap.

After a week on it I began to feel depressed in a very wierd psychotic way. I gave it another week to make sure and then I stopped it. It made me feel really terrible and a little suicidal (quite out of character). I understand that this is a rare side effect.

Funny because this drug has been a tremendous help to me for various things-twitching, anxiety, and sleeping. What dosage are you on? Perhaps cutting the dosage would help?
