Has anyone had flashing lights in their eye due to ON and had it go away? If so, how long did it last?

I see a flash in my left eye, most noticeably in the dark but I can see it all the time. I've been to several doctors (anyone reading my posts will notice I don't mess around with multiple opinions :P ) and they don't see a cause for it, damage to my optic nerve, or detached retina. But, if there is no damage, why is this happening?

Supposedly it will go away in time but curious to hear anyone else's experience with this symptom. My vision is also a tiny bit blurry/smudged in that eye, but I can still see, read, drive, etc. I am 27 years old so I don't think it is age-related. The smudge in my vision started at the end of July with the flashing lights following about a week later.
