The "auto immune" t and b cell response noted in MS in not unique to MS. New research continues to elucidate this response in stroke and injury to the central nervous system.

Roles of Autoantibodies in Central Nervous System Injury
Emerging data indicate that pathological sequelae that accompany CNS trauma have characteristics of a self-directed immunological disease.
