In addition to the upright MRI mentioned earlier, there are also open MRI machines which are more common. However, the field strength of the magnet tends to be lower. I have a family member who is claustrophobic and I was searching in my local area for open MRIs for them and the field strength was only 1.5 Tesla. I think that most MS docs like to use at least 3 Tesla now. Personally, I find MRIs very relaxing. My last one was a cardiac MRI about a year or so ago. The tech kept telling me when to breathe and when to hold my breath. It was rather meditative. By the way, my heart turned out to be fine. Don't forget to drink lots of fluids to help flush the gadolinium out of your body. I had a toxic metals urinalysis (with DMSA) done a couple of years ago and they found gadolinium. It had been 10 years since my prior MRI. Don't believe the techs when they say you'll easily get rid of the stuff.

They ended up trying a xanax/ativan combo that did nothing for me. I had a cloth over my face but still couldnt even make it in the machine.
I came un to the hospitsl because my entire right side was numb. Once they ruled out stroke with a ct, they said they had to confirm an active lesion before starting me in steroids (what else could it be?
Ince they saw that i couldnt do the mri, they gave me steroids anyhow so it wad all pretty pointless.
I think i might look in to hypno therapy. Experience will help too, but only if i can make it inside the machine.

ugh rough day.

do consider a serum magnesium test too.. might help you into a calmer overall frame of mind.. would be well-suited to any hypno efforts. you can beat it :) i'm living proof

you could maybe figure out little ways to gradually desensitize, make a regular habit of doing something slightly outside your comfort zone for a few seconds, then push the limits slowly over time.

hypno would potentially be like that. eyes closed, edging closer to the situation in your mind, when you start to feel uncomfortable, go to a mental 'happy place' and run through a full body relaxation process, with slow deep breathing. then, go back a few steps in your scenario in your head, and start over, trying to inch closer each time before you bolt to the happy place. mine was the beach :)
my approach: no meds so far - just nutrient-dense anti-inflammatory whole foods, and supplements where needed
