Anyone have experience with Destination Cure?

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Anyone have experience with Destination Cure?

Post by MattB »

I was thinking about getting into contact with this group if I am able to continue my running after I start rebif. I don't run marathons but perhaps I could use the races I do run to raise money/awareness for MS research etc.

Matt
I have not heard of this organization before. I am more familiar with Acclerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis. In fact, the president is a member of this site. My husband ran in the Marine Corps Marathon this past Oct (the race Dest. Cure cited) to raise funds for ACP. You may be interested in checking them out.

Accelerated Cure Project?

Post by Smilingface »

Where would I find more information on the Accelerated Cure Project? I've heard mention of it on this forum many times, but have never quite figured out the organization's structure and purpose. Is Dr. Volmer the medical spokesperson? Where would I find his most recent comments?

Thanks for the information.

Happy New Year Everyone! Surely with all this research, it will be a good year for us all.

Go to the website Lyon cited. It should give you all the info. I also don't know of a relationship with Dr. Vollmer. The website will give you ACP's mission but in a nutshell the repsitory is the main emphasis. Researchers can obtain samples with the understanding that their research is then made public so there is no duplication of studies. The cure map establishes what is known and not known about MS etc. Go to the website for a more complete description of the organization. I don't think I do it justice by trying to explain it here.

Using a directed GOOGLE search, Dr Timmothy Vollomer appears to be a major contributor, but I did not see any formal relationship in the list google returned.

Hi,

You can find a good starting point for our site at http://www.acceleratedcure.org/offerings/.

Dr. Vollmer's relationship with us is as a principal investigator at one of our collection sites for our repository, and also a member of our oversight committee that approves applications for use of the samples.

He recently spoke at our Annual Event - you can see the video here:

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
