Like Grump, I take 800mg Ibu every 4 hours when I have a headache I can feel from head to toe. I also found that alternating weeks between Aleve and Advil really makes them more effective; for me at any rate. I wouldn't take them non stop like that, so thank God that my headaches seem to come on for about a few weeks and then I get a good break. My liver needs it!
Acute cephalgia was actually my presenting symptom that resulted in CT scan, MRI and dx in the ER.
It's really only in hindsight that I see the the rest of the picture was there for a while.
Right now I feel my 'personal' headaches (as opposed to your headaches) are caused by a brain stem lesion, along with 2 large cervical lesions that result in a parkinson like head tremor leading to absurdly tight neck muscles.
The other culprit I didn't see discussed is optic nerve involvement. Focusing is very difficult most of the time, and that probably causes the type of headaches that are so bad I feel like my eyes are crossing!
I also revolve OTC pain relievers., though lately I'm considering upping the ante to an occaisional vicodin or one of it's cousins.
Anyone have horror stories with regard to them?
