This is an older story, but my girlfriends little boy said something today that reminded me of it. Back when my kid was about 4 (he's nine now) I was tucking him in my bed and told him I'd be back in to lay down with him in a little while. He tells me that he's too scared to fall asleep without me in the room because there's a monster in the closet. I laugh to myself at how classic this is and reassure him there is no monster in the closet. "yes there is daddy. It's the E-E monster" he says. E-E monster? I said. What the heck is the E-E monster? "It's the monster in the closet daddy" he says. Well why do you call it the E-E monster? "Because, it goes E-E, E-E, E-E all night long" he says. lol. Yes, the E-E monster was a cricket.
