new and ready for info

Post by jbirdee »

Hi there!
I am 30 years young and was diagnosed with MS in December 2008. My diagnosis came as a shock to me. I had been hurt at work in Feb 2008 and during a rehab program that I was paticipating in(May 2008) They discovered that I had some unusual weakness in my left thumb. I had never noticed it before and to this day dont notice it. Then I had two weeks of vertigo which sent me to my doctor. The CAT scan, MRIs and Evoke Potential tests began in October. My neurologist told me during a physical assesment that she didnt think that I fit the bill for ms based on her assesments but when I returned to see her on December 6th I had the diagnosis. Denial set in, I was carrying on in my life as I did before I knew about the MS. My husband of 10 years left me, I lost everything...he even went after full custody of my two children. The last thing i needed was the stress but I went on like nothing was wrong. Easter I had my first relapse. I was bedridden, unable to weightbear for about 7 days and took high dose steroids for 3 days. Its taken some time to get back on my feet but have recovered 110%. The only lingering symptom is fatigue. What my relapse helped me realize is that I do have to change my lifestyle. Slow down a little, take better care of myself, change my diet etc. I am now open to learning about alternative methods of treatment. I am still firmly against medication at this point. I look forward to accessing people's advice and experiences...Thank you

Hi Jbirdee -

there is a wide variety of forums here that may help you. You say that your are not interested in any meds at this time. there is lots of info on alternatives. The resident supplement person is Jimmylegs who is very knowdgeable on vitamins and minerals. Check out the natural forum.

welcome JB, like peek says, there's all kinds of good info here, check out the signature links below, read the forums like diet, natural approach, talk to me, DIM, cheerleader, and others, you can PM me questions on whatever you like, and just so you know i don't take any meds for my ms - just nutrition so far. i am only 3.5 years in so the jury's probably still out.
i have a topic under 'regimens' called 'orthomolecular biochemistry (formerly mega-D)' if you want to check that out.
check out ccsvi thread for developments involving new ms testing and possible surgical treatment - not medication per se.
HTH!
