Based off of the story about synctin, is anyone taking Ferulic Acid as a supplement?

How much?
For how long?
What brand?
When are you taking it?
What effects have you noticed, if any?

After reading the synctin report here at ThisIsMS, I did a little more research on ferulic acid and thought that I would try it.

I am now taking Source Naturals brand "athletic series" Trans-Ferulic Acid. I take 250 mg with breakfast and again with lunch. (500 daily) I've only been taking the supplement for about a week and have nothing really to report yet.

There is some history with ferulic acid as a body builder's supplement. Within that context, I could find no reports of ill effects. 250mg-500mg daily is the amount recommended as an athletic supplement.
So, I'll send in reports if anything seems notable.

I saw this pubmed entry about ferulic acid that could be a concern for people with MS because ferulic acid appears to stimulate gamma interferon production, which is bad.

A number of Plantago spp. especially P. major has long been used in the treatment of diseases such as infection, inflammation and cancer. In this study, we evaluated the immunomodulatory activities of five chemical classes of pure compounds obtained from the Plantago genus on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Studies were conducted on lymphocyte transformation by BrdU immunoassay and secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) using an ELISA assay.

Results showed that the water-soluble compounds, namely aucubin, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid and vanillic acid, enhanced the activity of human lymphocyte proliferation and secretion of IFN-gamma.

Among the water-insoluble compounds, with the exception of luteolin, both baicalein and baicalin showed an enhancement of the human PBMC. Although oleanolic acid and ursolic acid of the triterpenoids did not significantly affect the proliferation of PBMC, they exhibited a strong stimulation of IFN-gamma secretion. Linalool, a monoterpenoid, showed a similar immunomodulatory activity as the triterpenoids. The present study concludes that the tested compounds, which possess immunostimulating activities, may contribute to the traditional claims of Plantago-based natural products used in treating cancers and infectious diseases.

I started about three weeks ago. I noticed a decrease in nerve activity, especially at night. I can sleep very well now.

What type of nerve activity? Do you have a lot of numbness and tingling in your legs and arms? Do you have tingling in your face at all? Are you still walking and able to exercise? I am asking because I am trying to decide if this is appropriate therapy. Do you take LDN as well?

My nerve activity has diminished to the point that it doesn't bother me any more when I sleep etc. Nerve activity such as in my head, legs, feet etc. I don't have that now. I also included Curcumin in my daily therapy along with a megavitamin. My nervous system seems to have overcome the constant inflammation that I had for years. My back pain has stopped. I also use Zocor (this works great) and Copaxone. I feel great every day.
