My husband was recently diagnosed with MS and his doctor prescribed Avonex for him. I received a phone call yesterday stating that our copay is $750. OMG, there's no way in hell we can pay that. That's injections for only one month. How do they expect people to be able to do that? They told me that there are companies that assist with the copay's but it's based on income. Believe it or not they ...

Hey Everyone,
I'm definitely overweight and I'll be starting Avonex soon. Anyone else on here have a little extra "junk in the trunk" hahaha and how do you do with your Avonex shot? Where do you take your shot?

Post subject: Anyone use very small gauge needles? Posted: Sat Aug 23, 2008 5:52 pm |

Hi
I've been on Avonex now for 4 months and I'm still having difficulty with injection discomfort. I know try icing the spot down until it feels numb before the injection and I get the shot at room temp. My Avonex prescription comes with the standard 23 gauge/ 1 and 1/4'' needle. When I go for my next neuro visit I'm going to request a prescription for the 1'' needle but I don't know what ...

Post subject: Move to London from US Posted: Fri Aug 22, 2008 8:16 am |

I have the opportunity to relocate as an expat to London for 2 years. I am currently taking avonex here in the US and want to make sure that should I accept the offer to relocate that avonex will be available and affordable within the UK when I am not a citizen of the country.
Any information regarding the cost and availability of avonex for expats in London would be greatly appreciated. My international health ...

Post subject: How an Injection to the Thigh Feels Posted: Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:13 pm |

I started my first treatment of Avonex yesterday. I had a nurse come and assist me because I was nervous doing the first administration alone. When I started inserting the needle into my thigh, I was able to feel the needle sliding in (it did not hurt); however, when I got closer to the bottom, I felt the needle puncture through something. It made me kind of jolt. It wasn't unbearably painful, but I could ...

Hi there. I am new here and new to Avonex...I had my first shot 1.5 weeks ago and afterwards, the numbness in my leg started becoming worse and spread more every day. My Doc said it's natural and it wil be like this for the first few times. He said it will last for a few days only, after each shot. Now...after my second shot...it still hasn't gone, I feel my whole body numb apart ...

Post subject: pain and bruises...now? Posted: Wed Jun 11, 2008 9:35 pm |

I posted for the first time yesterday under introductions. I was told that this is where I could find out information on Avonex. I was dx almost a year ago officially and have been on Avonex from the start. I don't have to much trouble self injecting although it gets tiresome even though I get help from my husband if I really need it. I inject in four places on the tops and sides of ...

Here's an interesting paper that came out last Fall which looked at the effects of curcumin combined with Ifn-B.
Curcumin modulation of IFN-beta and IL-12 signalling and cytokine induction in human T cells.
J Cell Mol Med. 2007 Sep-Oct;11(5):1129-37.
Curcumin is a polyphenol derived from the dietary spice turmeric. It possesses diverse anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Curcumin has been shown to exhibit an inhibitory effect on the production of inflammatory cytokines by human monocytes ...

Post subject: Injecting in the arm Posted: Thu Apr 03, 2008 9:43 am |

I was just wondering, for people who inject in the upper arm, does it hurt? I have been thinking of doing this but am a bit worried of it hurting? ( After almost 4years, I still cannot do it myself)
I'm starting to notice very slight scarring on my thighs so was abit worried of permanently damaging/scarring muscle tissue.
Thank you
