Watching a neuron at work

Here's a little application that some might find fun :) :

"HHsim is a graphical simulation of a section of excitable neuronal membrane using the Hodgkin-Huxley equations. It provides full access to the Hodgkin-Huxley parameters, membrane parameters, stimulus parameters, and ion concentrations."

http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/HHsim/

There's also a little guide on how to use the application

Helping me to learn anyway how those bits of my brian that ...

New Scam Warning

SCAM WARNING

This new scam is being pulled mainly on older men.

What happens is that when you stop for a red light a young, nude woman comes
up and pretends to be washing your windscreen and drivers door window.

While she is doing this another person opens another car door and steals
anything in the car.

They are very good at this. They got me 7 times Friday and 5 times
Saturday. I drove ...

Anti-biotics and nerve protection

Dear all,

Article from the BBC's website about anti-biotics and nerve protection. Doesn't specifically mention ms but is no doubt relevant.

As usual, further trials will be necessary etc etc.

I hope that there's an ms researcher out there who has set the following New Year's resolution - 'to undertake a piece of research which reaches definitive results and ...

(What doctors SAY, and what they're really THINKING: )

"This should be taken care of right away."

(I'd planned a trip to Hawaii next month but this is so easy and profitable
that I want to fix it before it cures itself.)

"Welllllll, what have we here...?"

(He has no idea and is hoping you'll give him a clue.)

"Let me check your medical history."

Pulled a "Homer"

Monday, the nurse dropped by to teach me how to give myself the Avenox injections. We practice the "dart", "anchor", "inject", "pull out", and "press with sterile swab". After practicing with an orange a few times, I decided I was ready. I sat calmly and started to "dart", "anchor", "pull out", and "press with sterile swab" saying the steps as I went along. Nurse said I did a great job the first time but forgot ...

trying to give back

You know how you feel guilty b/c you are continually having to ask for assistance with things (well - not to project my neuroses on all of you - but this is how I feel)...

WELL! Yesterday I had the opportunity to help someone else. One of the guys I work with (I am the ONLY woman in my dept which produces a litany of funny stories apart from this) needed a ride to drop ...
