Post subject: Growth factor in stem cells may spur recovery from MS

A substance in human mesenchymal stem cells that promotes growth appears to spur restoration of nerves and their function in rodent models of multiple sclerosis (MS), researchers at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine have found.

Their study appeared in the online version of Nature Neuroscience on Sunday, May 20.

In animals injected with hepatocyte growth factor, inflammation declined and neural cells grew. Perhaps most important, the myelin sheath, which protects nerves and ...

The Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) today announced the results of a new peer-reviewed research study published in Nature Neuroscience that demonstrates functional improvement in immune response modulation and myelin repair with factors derived from mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) treatment in animal models of multiple sclerosis (MS).

Funded by the Myelin Repair Foundation, this research conducted by Case Western Reserve University scientists showed positive results with human mesenchymal stem cells in animal models of MS ...

PostPosted: Sun May 20, 2012 5:47 pm
I've been following stem cell research and the promise it holds for folks w/ MS. They always end the articles with "in 5-10 years". Looks like Texas ain't waiting no more...
Texas State Senator Hardcastle talking about adult stem therapy he had for his MS - in Houston. No immune system ablation required. Source is your own adipose tissue. Stem cells expanded to 600 million cells, delivered via IV.

Post subject: Dr. Botev autologous stem cell treatment Sofia - Bulgaria
PostPosted: Wed May 16, 2012 9:08 am
Has anybody heard of the autologous stem cell treatment offered at Tokuda Hospital in Sofia / Bulgaria ? They are using non-expanded bone-marrow or adipose tissue derived stem cells. This is the same hospital where Dr. Petrov has specialised in CCSVI treatments and Dr. Grozdinski is the contact person for both. I have been in contact with him and have received an info letter, which doesn't answer most of my questions...
This is why I ...

PostPosted: Thu Apr 26, 2012 12:11 am

As immature cells, neural stem cells must stick together in a protected environment called a niche in order to divide so they can make all of the cells that populate the nervous system. But when it's time to mature, or differentiate, the neural stem cells must stop dividing, detach from their neighbors and migrate to where they are needed to form the circuits necessary for humans to think, feel and interact with the world. ...

Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) have identified a molecular pathway that controls the retention and release of the brain’s stem cells. The discovery offers new insights into normal and abnormal neurologic development and could eventually lead to regenerative therapies for neurologic disease and injury.

The findings, from a collaborative effort of the laboratories of Drs. Anna Lasorella and Antonio Iavarone, were published today in the online edition of Nature Cell Biology....Read More ...

New stem cell found in brain: could help to heal and repair brain injury and disease

Image

Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have discovered a new stem cell in the adult brain. These cells can proliferate and form several different cell types -- most importantly, they can form new brain cells. Scientists hope to take advantage of the finding to develop methods to heal and repair disease and injury in the brain.

Analyzing brain ...
