Harry, quit backpeddling about conflicts of interest.
I think most people who have followed Tysabri know that Dr. Steinman works for another, competitive company. Most "expert" opinions given on behalf of a particular drug by a doctor have the drug company employing the doc or paying him for his opinion. That's the way it is in the pharmaceu...

Amelia, I agree. It is all about well informed "choice
You also have a choice of who you select to be your physician or specialist. My typically conservative and cautious neuro, who is currently TOUCH certified, had also given in to my eagerness to be prescribed this novel therapy in late 2004 and signed my pevious prescription on December 1st of 2004 d...

Harry, thanks for mentioning smiling Dr. Larry Steinman.
There is no doubt in my mind that Dr. Larry Steinman is one of many professional thought leaders in the field of MS research. However, lets take a closer look at his previous role in the development of natalizumab through to its recent FDA marketing re-approval. Dr. Steinman did play a small part in...

Harry Z, I thought this thread was about research?
Harry, The conflicted and biased research study you refered to was ORIGINALLY and COINCIDENTALLY presented just prior to the Tysabri FDA AC meeting in March. It's old F.U.D which I think was sponsored or funded by TEVA, owners of the Copaxone for MS franchise in a pitiful attempt to slow or even hal...

Shooting Harry Z's biased research full of holes.
First of all, a clinically diagnosed, treatment naive MSer has too many infiltrating or cascading WBCs in their CSF. An AIDs patient has a severely degraded immune system and poor immune suveillance in their CNS! Natalizumab's novel mechanism of action IS to mitigate and dampen the cascade of these ...

Amelia I totally agree with you about MS therapies.
If a therapy or med is working for that patient it's all well and good. Too bad way too many of us veterans can't get that satisfaction. I am in a well connected and informed group of MSers who will go back on Tysabri as soon as it returns. Like you said, our choice and that's what it's all about. R...

Betaseron washout now at 13 months.
I quit Betaseron in Oct2004 after almost 10 years of therapy in preparation to go on Tysabri earlier this year. Oddly enough, an exacerbation that had appearred in mid 2004 followed by more relapses late last year, has not returned. I honestly believe that beta interferon may have actually aggravate...

Thank you, Harry. But, PML has occurred in MSers.
MS patients didn't hear about PML until Tysabri came along. This drug is a powerful, immune system altering medication and it needs a lot more study done on it....far more than Biogen/Elan gave it prior to approval and general use. The good thing that has come out of all of this is that when Tysabr...

Harry, Tysabri cured active MS in many AFFIRM patients. >
Harry, nice one. I wasn't trying to convince you of something you already knew. I was trying to tell you something new. I reworded my previous question into a statement. Now read it again and tell me what you think: "Tysabri showed 28% SUSTAINED disease reversal with 100% mitigated disease prog...

Harry, that doesn't fly.
Comparing the data and endpoints with other mutually exclusive clinical trials is unscientific methodology. Please show me where any of the ABCR drugs showed 28% SUSTAINED disease reversal by 100% mitigated disease progression in any of the previous clinical trials or commercial patient population? ...

Amelia-my experience on two doses of Tysabri
I intentionally quit Betaseron therapy in Oct 2004 in anticipation of starting Tysabri therapy as soon as it was commercially avialable after FDA approval. When I received my first dose of Tysabri I had already been experiencing occasional MS relapses and disability progression from more recent exac...

Biogen may have been strong-armed to halt clinical dosing.
Yep, the new drug was selling like hotcakes right out of the chute. I also was in full support of the suspension of the drug from commercial distribution and the Sentinel clinical study when the safety issue came to light. However, I seriously want to know who put the kabash on the AFFIRM trial. Not...

Bromeley, well said.
Many of us Msers are already at 100% risk of further disability and disease progression. The CRABs are a dismal failure for many of us. And along comes a brand new drug that offers us some hope and the FDA has decided to engage a RISK averse policy with new drugs using this one as a test case? The F...

Hello Harry
I have to agree to disagree with you on one of your comments. The mechanism of action of natalizumab therapy comes much closer to mitigating the precursory inflammatory stage of MS than any of the existing therapies do today. More accurate targeting of the soluble VCAM molecules with the exclusive T...
