Lissa Rankin, MD is an OB/GYN physician, author, keynote speaker, consultant to health care visionaries, professional artist, and founder of the women's health and wellness community OwningPink.com. Discouraged by the broken, patriarchal health care system, she left her medical practice in 2007 only to realize that you can quit your job, but you can't quit your calling. This epiphany launched her on a journey of discovery that led her to become a leader in the field of mind/body medicine, which she blogs about at OwningPink.com and is writing about in her third book Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself (Hay House, 2013).

She teaches both patients and health care professionals how to make the body ripe for miracles by healing the mind and being healthy in all aspects of life, not just by promoting healthy behaviors like good nutrition, exercise, and adequate sleep, but by encouraging health and authenticity in relationships, work, creative expression, spirituality, sexuality, finances, and living environment. careful now Thomas, I mentioned her book here a couple of weeks ago and I was called an unreasonable poster, I was lol ed (laughed at), and accused of scaring posters off of the site. So, apparently, thoughtful, scientific understanding that goes beyond "hey here's a pill, take it" is a sure-fire way to land your reputation in the quack bin

Good post. Don't worry about the jokers that call real healers quacks. They have another agenda.

Do what works, who cares if someone else thinks its kooky, they are just text on a computer screen. One of my favorite books is the Power of Now by Ekhart Tolle.

I will say what bothers me about speakers like Lissa Rankin is that they say the way to wellness is by living THEIR lifestyle. But that is totally unrealistic. I have a very stressful job, which i need to provide for my young family. I can't "chill out, paint, do yoga and hike in California" I have to hire, fire, do budgets, report to senior executive and present to crowds of my peers. Its tough but its necessary. I cant be so selfish as to live for only myself. I find my satisfaction in the life i can provide for my kids, which isn't extravagant but its a hell of a lot better than the horse ranch I grew up on.

if you don't, it comes down to mods noticing... and speaking for myself only, i may be working sometimes from a slightly desensitized perspective.. (eg personally, re the topic in question, i thought things came around all right in the end, after a little bit of relatively civil back and forth)

We don't usually call the conspiracy theorist ranting about big pharma keeping us sick for their profits kooks. What's the difference? One is just as believable as the other. When you have MS or your loved one has MS, you learn to think outside the box pretty quick. I choose to keep an open mind, taking in what I think will help and leaving what I think will not.

I have to say Thomas, I don't think the video really had that much content. I have to side with Kronk here.

Someone has to deliver the babies. I would hope that my ob gyn isn't off painting if I have a placental abruption. Despite what people on this board may tell you, the fact that obstetrics exists is very important and has significantly reduced infant mortality. Someone has to make the saccrifice to endure a high stress profession to serve society.

Not everyone is cut out for this sort of profession. Dr. Rankin was obviously very unhappy, and she found a new profession. More power to her.

Kronk: I have no idea what you do for a living, but thank you for contributing to society. People like you and I understand that everything you see around us...every business...every building...every gadget...every highly trained professional...involved many people working very very hard.
