I tried to find the details, but could not find if they were explicitly only looking at treating/testing on early stage RRMS? ie excluding SPMS and PPMS or anyone without recent evidence of enhancing lesions, from the study.

I did find the following details new & interesting
Stem cells are taken from the patient’s bone marrow and manipulated to become brain-like neural cells, a process created and found only at Tisch MSRCNY. All treatments and research will be conducted at the Tisch MS Research Center of New York and will expand to include an additional leading MS center.
So its not your "normal" HSCT type treatment, which is normally only found effective against RRMS. This technique sounds like it could work for later stages of MS.

I believe Tisch is concentrating on PPMS with this trial. MSC is very different from HCST.
