Lamotrigine trial results

Post by Muu »

Hi Guys,
yes, i have been quiet for a while but all has been well. In the same week that I received a blue badge (hurrah!) I also received a letter from the Consultant that was overseeing the Lamotrigine trial that I was on for 2 years and that finshed last Autumn. It turns out that I was in the 50% on the placebo, which is what I'd suspected all along. It was a double blind trial so the doctors did not know that either. That was no surprise although the overall results sadly were. It appears that Lamotrigine does not have any significant affect on slowing down axonal deterioration for those like me who have SPMS and that the drug will not be recommended as a treatment. Oh well. Back to the drawing board....

Hi there Muu. I went to see my consultant(in England) too and he told me about Lamotrigine and once the trials were reported then he woud be in touch.

Felt a glimmer of hope but from your post it seems that this drug will not be an option.

Thanks for taking part in the trials, sorry the news wasnt better.

Thank you all for your messages. I was pleased to be involved in the trial and had first class care throughout. I would do the same again. My view is that funding for trials is scarce and therefore there must be some scientific basis for conducting it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that. It is a shame that it didn't work out - for all of us. I'm sorry if i disappointed anyone by jumping the gun on the results. With very best wishes to you all.
