Dr Ritchie Russell's program
I'm starting this thread so I can find out more about neurologist Dr Ritchie Russell's multiple sclerosis exercise program. Anyone tried it?
In a nutshell, Dr Russell felt the blood brain barrier could be rebuilt, and blood flow stabilised, if patients did regular exercise in the supine position.

excercise program
well - that's what I'm hoping to find out as i can't get hold of the book. But I believe they are excercises such as bench presses - things you can do while flat on your back. This would force blood through your jugulars...which operate when you are in the supine position.
When I read this, i thought...this Dr is onto something. The doctor believed this type of excercise would strengthen your blood brain barrier.
There are 15 minute sets of excercises.

gathering info
Hi Ikulo,
I've been liberated...just notice that my jugulars feel better after aerobic excercise (I feel mild pressure in them when I wake up, but no pressure after my morning workout). Looking to explore suggested Dr Russell's suggested excercises.

The book is available from the British Library - downloadable or in print for a fee. This is the only place I have been able to find it.
Re: Dr Ritchie Russell's program
I have been doing a very similar program for the last 6 months. Its called 5x5 stronglifts. Basically after a warm up you do 4 compound lifts (using multiple muscles) such as deadlift, squat, bench press, barbell row, shoulder press. You lift an extremely heavy weight for 5 sets of 5 reps. The intensity is extreme and I sweat like a beast. I did find evidence that extremely intense exercise ruptures the Blood Brain Barrier. However, like any bodybuilder knows you must "break" muscle cells so that they super-compensate and grow bigger and stronger. Much like the saying no pain no gain This may work for the endothelium as well.

Re: Dr Ritchie Russell's program
I have posted on this before, but it seemed as there was not much interest - I do exercises (many in a supine position) using an exercise system called Redcord. Here is my previous post on it: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/general-d ... 22705.html.
I have experienced slightly better mobility since starting it.
