What do you think, Zincbreath? Oops...I mean Jimmylegs. Those darn typos! Is that fear I smell?Studies that could reflect on the glucocorticoid responsive expression of ZnT2 and a role in pancreatic zinc secretion are available. Adrenal insufficiency increases serum zinc concentrations whereas administration of glucocorticoids, corticotropin, and the excess cortisol production in Cushing’s Syndrome decrease these concentrations [reviewed in (38)]. Hypercortisolemia and hypozincemia are associated with chronic alcoholism (39). Excess cortisol could accelerate pancreatic zinc release and produce a systemic zinc deficiency as observed in alcoholism.
