Hi Everyone,
I'm new here, and I have a question. I wasn't dx with MS myself, but I have something similar. They just called it Demyelinating Plaque disease. I'm 61, and I have a cousin who is 60. He was dx with MS. We aren't close, which is unfortunate. I know he's been on Avenox for several years. But as of last year he's been put on Adderall. I did speak to him briefly and asked why. He said he found a neurologist who has MS himself. This Doc said he noticed a loss in his cognitive functioning, memory, and energy levels. So the Doc consulted his partners ad they put him on Adderall. The Doc is doing better so he now treats almost all his MS patients with Adderall.

I have this disease, whatever it is, since 2002. I have constant pain which most MS victims don't. But in the last 2 years I've been getting exhaustion that's very debilitating. It never occurred to me that Demyelinating disease could cause fatigue that's so intense I call it exhaustion. I've been chalking it up to age. I need to sleep after being awake only 12 hours. I didn't know this exhaustion could be coming from the Demyelinating disease. So what do all of you think? Is extreme fatigue or exhaustion a symptom of MS?

It sure is.

See my post :http://www.thisisms.com/forum/general-d ... 24029.html

The niacin flush gives a lot of energy also, but only quite temporarily in my experience.

Wow, I can see I'm going to need a whole new education and vocabulary to understand any of this. Since what happened to me happened in 2002 I've gone 12 years without even seeing a neurologist for a follow up. The Doc I saw back then said it was a 1 time thing and nothing I should have to worry about. So I didn't because I have all kinds of other issues. Which I'm now thinking may be related. With all these other issues I have, the thought that I may have yet anther thing is scaring me out of my wits.

I thank you for answering me THX, and I did read several posts your link lead to. Several people used the phrase an acute MS attack. What is an acute MS attack?

I've noticed in the past year that climbing steps is harder. My legs often burn when I go up steps, and if I'm carrying groceries it's even harder. I've been blaming it on COPD, age, and maybe my heart too. Is this possibly an acute MS attack?

You have to stop believing the Doctors if you ever want to get better. They are not there to make you better. They are there to sell you their drugs. They are the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA. You have to get the information yourself or go to a holistic doctor if you want your health back. It is up to you. I can understand your problem with chronic fatigue syndrome because I feel I had it. My solution was getting on a vegan diet, supplements, juicing, exercise, proper sleep, getting the mercury out of my mouth and meditation. All my symptoms are gone. You can get better but it is all up to you. Let Dr. Bergman explain it.
