Serum ferritin is used as an indicator of iron stores in the body. Iron overload causes inflammation. Inflammation in the body can cause higher ferritin levels --which makes them somewhat unreliable. I have high serum iron, high transferrin saturation rate, but normal serum ferritin. I take LDN, whi...

Ah, yes! No pain, no gain! Right? Beth, I am having trouble keeping track of everything posted, too. It's interesting that your arms experienced that on the third day, just as mine did. Merlyn, I have no idea what kind of phleb schedule my doctor has in mind. He is probably waiting to see the ...

This is my third day out post-phlebotomy. I decided to trudge through the snow to the post office and back, about 2 miles. I felt so tired and achy afterwards, especially in the upper arm muscles (odd :? ), that I lay down for an hour to rest. That was a little too much too soon, I reckon. In my rea...

How exciting for you, Merlyn! What a wonderful reward for all your perseverance! :D As for me, I experienced a very little, mild heart fluttering late yesterday, then it went away. Since I do not have the kind of disability that you have, and am taking LDN, I am not surprised to feel about the same ...

The doctor mentioned the possibility of sending me to a hematologist, but I would have to drive over 100 miles each way through high mountain passes through snow and ice, so I was not very enthusiastic about that idea! I asked him, What kinds of tests would a hematologist do that could not be done h...

How nice to have a doctor that, at least, can see no harm being done. If phlebs are all that is necessary, so long as our iron is kept at a reasonable level and not allowed down too far, we should be healthier. I just felt tired on the morning after, but no daytime sleeping from that point on. Vari...

Yesterday and today I have been experiencing the shortness of breath that comes occasionally. While I was talking with the doctor, the more I spoke, the worse the shortness of breath became, and I had to keep “catching my breath.” I told him that I was feeling “off” today, and just kept talking. 8O ...

I saw the doctor this morning to review the lab results, and he ordered a phlebotomy, which was also done this morning (500 ml). I do not feel any different, either for better or for worse. I would not even know that I had that done if I did not see it with my own eyes! :) He said that he has a few ...

Katie45, It is my understanding that the amount of blood drawn during a phlebotomy is dependent upon the patient's condition. If you can withstand only half the amount, for example, they will do that. It would just take longer to bring down the overload levels. I hope that you will be able to give it...

My daughter works in the medical field and sent me a link for the page on their guidelines for Hereditary Hemochromatosis. Here is an interesting point from that reading: Up to 15% of hereditary hemochromatosis patients may carry neither gene or will be presumed to be compound heterozygotes of one C...

Yes, well my test results said C282Y heterozygous carriers were unlikely to load iron as well. Yeah right! The test will be - Will your doctor help you to unload the extra iron you are obviously carrying. Beth, I have the feeling that this doctor is unfamiliar with iron overload and HH, so I am not...
