Re: DrSclafani answers some questions

hi Dr S, I just had an appointment with a prof. vascular/brain surgeon at my local hosp. who brought me in to say 'I've looked at your CT scans and there's nothing wrong with your veins.' What do i do? Glasgow folk said the same after an ultrasound last year. Do i drop it and assume i'm one of the 3...

VVVVV....vvve!!

thanks for reply CC. I have some more researches to do. i looked for somewhere to get dopplered. I stamped my feet to get seen by a radiographer who swore by CT I thought my next move was looking for MRV. Before i go and ask: do you know whether ccsvi centres routinely offer venogram AND mrv? thanks...

2nd opinions? this ISN'T trolling

since my last posting the ccsvi folks in Glasgow had another look at my results from last year as they feel they have more experience 12 months on. here's a quote from the letter from them - "report: both IJVs demonstrate normal retrograde flow with normal venous expansion in supine position an...

my neuro never sugarcoated anything but I s'pose at least butter goes hard again!

going a bit off topic but what i don't understand is how the brain, which apparently benefits from the right balance of omega 3 & 6 (non-saturates) yet still behaves like a tub of lard/saturate!

smorgasbord

that's really interesting, I can see that all these factors go into the mix of MS symptoms. Before i had a car with a/c i couldn't comfortably (or safely) drive for any length of time in the summer without an icepack down my back. I do feel though that a contributory factor to heat intolerance is ne...

intolerable heat

my neurologist explained MS heat intolerance to me a few years ago ('bout the only thing he's done for me of real use!) Nerve insulation/myelin is a fat and behaves, apparently a bit like butter when left in the heat and out of the fridge It's why not just people w MS have heat intolerance. When the...

imaging techniques

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but i figured i might get an answer to a question. august '10: i had a doppler ultrasound in Glasgow, uk. right & left jugulars when erect had restricted flow when supine both had mild stenosis but it was considered to be normal flow so no further ...

advice from radiologist

the radiologist looked at both jugulars and azygous with CT and saw nothing that was indicative of ccsvi although he did say that it would be worth going to people that investigate this every day as even a small restriction of bloodflow could have symptoms. I'm a little confused Cece, who did you ha...

imaging, imaging

thanks for speedy detailed response, Cece! will look into Dr Reid options. I'll see what this radiologist's thoughts are - he's not specifically ccsvi-trained but last year, he was the only consultant willing to listen past the mention of the term ccsvi and investigate further (hope i'm not just fan...

think/hope I'm in the right place

I've been sleeping on a slope (IBT, thanks TiMS for the headsup) for a couple of years now which has definitely improved my circulation (back on flat at present til we fix the new bed). I had a doppler on my jugulars in august '10 (which were around 14% obstructed so no treatment was taken). Since t...

rampant atrophy

I live in the UK and have had ms for 17 years. I went for CCSVI ultrasound by a zamboni-trained doc in Glasgow over the summer. I had mild stenoses within the 'normal' range that they felt didn't warrant treatment. It took them a while to see this as i have very low BP. I had an appointment with my ...

porphyri...aah

I've been wondering about porphyria since August after a gp attached to CCSVI screening suggested an increased sensitivity to... what you get in car exhaust and cigarettes (having ludicrous mental blanks at mo, apologies). I'd been finding out how my sudden 'allergy' to sun a few years back could be...

HBOT seemed (not at all sure) to provide an hour or so's relief from a recent worsening of a blurry patch that's been on my right eye for the past 7 years. It didn't remove the old damage but it did seem to take away the last few month's activity so I guess it could be worth cramming some more 'dive...
