Also a cookie/biscuit fan - make my own peanut butter cookies - yum!

We also do savoury scones - no sugar, and sometimes add herbs or cheese to them before baking - scones, of any type, should be light and fluffy, otherwise they are rock-cakes!
Don't think I can get vegetable shortening here, so will have to substitute butter, and hope for the best. But will make 'em tomorrow and see how they go...
Any of you tried Yorkshire Pudding? It is not a pudding - we eat it with roast beef and gravy - you make a kind of pancake batter (crepe), pour it into muffin tin, and bake in the oven (it is not sweet)...Typical Sunday lunch.
Jack, what kind of gravy do you have for breakfast? To me gravy is made with the juices from meat, thickened and seasoned, so this makes me very curious?

I live in South Africa and i have no idea what crisco is or what it does, and i need it for a recipe. What can i use?
...The closest would be Holsum, if that's still available. Or something similar. When I grew up in South Africa, that's what was widely used for cakes, pastries etc.
...I have used a product we have called Holsum, which is a very hard, white, vegetable fat for recipes like this - it works, fine, but obviously I have never tasted what it SHOULD taste like if you kwim?

Ja, Afrikaans is a hybrid language made up of about half Dutch (very close, but more gutteral), maybe a quarter German, with a bit of French/English thrown in. It is probably about 150 - 200 years old and arose from the myriad settlers that were attracted to this country - lots of French Hugenots and there are still many French surnames here, but the people they belong to generally speak Afrikaans (Du Toit, Du Preez, De Villiers, Cillier, Labuschagne etc), lots of Dutch and German (Van Der Berg, Van Der Westhuizen, Van Der Walt, Van Der Merwe etc). The language is still veryy widely spoken and it is impossible to live here and not begin to understand a bit of it - I have a couple of very close Austrian friends, and I can often follow their conversations in German, if they don't speak too fast.
We have 11 official languages here - the Zulu pronounciation is tough, even for me - lots of 'clicks', though not in the phrases I gave you - and I spelled them phonetically, just for you! My hubby was born here (I am from the UK) and he is fluent not only in English, but also in Zulu and Afrikaans - wish I was!
Are you from a French Canadian area? Did you have that opportunity to grow up with another language?

What does the abreviation 'Imao' mean? I am so old.....

Maybe I just feel a million years old today - Avonex day again! I know 5 years isn't even a blink of an eye - I use the same argument when chatting to Bob - he tries to pull this 'respect your elder stuff'!

You know, I finished high school in the mid-'80's & had finished my undergrad degree by 1989 - before I stopped work last year, I was working with kids who were born AFTER I finished high school.....Shop assistants now call me Ma'am instead of Miss...Avonex contributes to depression! That is my excuse...Actually, I don't mind getting older, just wish the old body would regenerate!
But - hubby bought me a puppy today! We already have 3 dogs and 2 cats, but I had a Great Dane years ago and have never been so in love with a dog before or since (though i love all my pets) - so he got me a beautiful jet black Great Dane girl - she is sleeping on the bed beside me as I type! I am so in love with her - will post a pic asap - she is only 7 weeks old. My boys are pretty stoked too.

JL - I would not for the world upset the sweet and beautiful Pammy of the ms forum - maybe you used LMAO, I can't remember any more! But I am glad I am learning the lingo anyway.

Where does 'homeskillet' come from?

Actually Ally JL is wrong, I call her Homeskillet because she is so dayum cute. LOL it is from a movie called "Juno" if you have not seen it go ahead and rent it. It is really good and the last movie that has made me cry. What a puss I have become lately.
Ally you are so beautiful. Here in Texas I have allways heard the older the berry the sweeter the wine and I'm sure that applies to you and ol' Homeskillet.
Well I'm drunk and have to go to bed so I will be talking to yall later. Maybe tommorow evening I will put up some pictures of some BBQ crabs.

You always make me laugh, especially at myself, which is great! I know this was not your intention, but when I read your post, then read mine back again, I realised how pathetic I can be - I have snapped out of it already - I should be banned from posting on Sundays (Avonex).
You are a really nice guy, and you obviously get even nicer when 'drunk'.

I have never had a particularly remarkable face (which is why I was really brave posting a pic of me!), so aging in that way is not an issue for me (don't care about the wrinkles - they add character) but I have some really beautiful friends and it is much harder for them - they spend a fortune on creams and lotions and are even considering botox, they are so frightened of losing their looks, as if their face defines them!
Blimey, I use soap and water to wash my face, and never remember to even moisturize, so I don't really understand that mentality?
The problem that really bothers me is what happens to your fitness and energy both through ms and through aging - weakness, aches and pains, fatigue..All this gets worse when I inject, so I feel I know what an 80 year old feels like. Wish I had the energy and stamina of those young folks
