One thing that I find odd is that these researchers, like many others, seem to have gotten stuck in the Th1, Th2 dichotomy and have neglected to mention Th0 and Th3 cells. Of course, it could be just be the journalist who wrote the summary.Before this study, two such different types of effector T helper cells had been known - type I (TH1), linked to the body's response to microbial infection, and type 2 (TH2), which plays a crucial function in production of B cell antibodies and also is associated with development of allergies.
