pseudobulbar affect

I have innappropriate crying and exagerated anger for which my Doc wants me to enroll in a study of a new drug call neurodex. Has anyone used anything else for this?

Thanks. I wnet to this website yesterday after my visit with the neuro. I am going to start in this study on the 22nd of this month. In the past a low dose of paxil worked, but I can not tolerate the side effects anymore, so I am hoping this drug will work. I am a nurse, and I used to take care of stroke patients that had this, but I have not spoken to many MSer's who do.

Yes, this is the study I will be in. I spoke with the nurse reasercher yesterday, and I am eligible for the study. I have to go to Fort Lauderdale where my neuro is 6 times in one year for lab work and that kind of stuff. Thanks so much for the info.

By the way, I ultimatley was not approved to participate in this study. Once they got my cardiologists records, they wouldn't allow me to participate because one of the drugs in neurodex is a cardiac drug my Doc doesnt think I should take. I think he is wrong, because it is such a low dose, but non the less, I can't participate in the study. I am really bummed about this.

Cathy,

In one of your posts you said paxil worked but with side effects. Why don't you try one of the other SSRI's? My wife is a pharmacist so I have the inside scoop on pharmacological knowledge. A suggestion.............see if your neuro. will prescribe Lexapro. This one is better tolerated by many people, supposedly has fewer side effects, and is in the same drug family (SSRI's). I have personal experience with this one. Paxil and I didn't get along at all. Others are Celexa(closely related to Lexapro), Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor..................to name a few.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have been on them all and I do not tolerate any of them. When I first used paxil, I started with a 5mg dose, which is way less than what is recommended, but it worked and I stayed on that does. Then I went off for a year or so, and when I tried it again, I just could not tolerate. The nurse from the study said the study may open to everyone, and then I could be a part even though my cardiologist thinks not. Guess I will just have to wait and see. I don't know why the SSRI's affect me the way they do, but I guess I am just one of those people who cant take them.
