Leonard Cohen Lyrics: Hallelujah
Leonard Cohen Lyrics: Hallelujah
LEONARD COHEN LYRICS
"Hallelujah"
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

WRONG!!!greyman wrote:Leonard Cohen only covered Hallelujah. The first to sing it was Jeff Buckley.
from wiki:
"Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen and originally released on his studio album Various Positions (1984). The song found greater popular acclaim by way of a cover by John Cale, which formed the basis for a later cover by Jeff Buckley.
Although it achieved little initial success, in recent years cover versions have been performed by a large number and broad range of artists, both in recordings and in concert.
Plus, John Cale did a much better cover.
P.S. Jeff Buckley was born in 1966, various positions came out in 1984.
So then, I guess it's settled.Malden wrote:He is my hero.concerned wrote:I've been on a real Leonard Cohen kick lately.
Malden and I share some really excellent views when it comes to art and music, although I'm sure he'd find the rest of the art and music that I am interested in to be utterly disgusting.
That's wonderful! A great soundtrack for a great moment in life!!!Malden wrote:Sry, I don't wan't to know about it. Ever see Fata Morgana? That's one of my favorite films of all time. Still, Throbbing Gristle and SPK top Leonard Cohen for me, or at least when I'm not drunk.
That was my last lay loveIsaac Hayes – The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face:
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies, my love
And the first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
The first time ever I saw your face
Your face, your face, your face

IMHO, the quintessential version of the song is performed by K.D. Lang at the Juno awards in 2005. I recall reading that after hearing this performance Cohen thought that there was no longer any point in doing the song . . . . and another person commenting that God must have this version on his iPod. Prepare to be inspired.

While it may be the quintessential version (as in the most typical of a type or form), Leonard Cohen's is still the essential version (as in necessary, indispensable.)
What this all has to do with CCSVI, I couldn't tell you. I'm gunna go spin all my Leonard Cohen vinyl chronologically from Various Positions on.
