Copaxone and Monthly Cycle?
Copaxone and Monthly Cycle?
Hello all,
This is more a question to the women of the group... so I appologize to the men.
I have been diagnosed and on Copaxone for 6 months now. I am still getting use to a lot of the changes my body is going through and learning about MS.
What I am curious about, is if any of the woman have noticed changes in the length, durration and flow durring their cycle? Mine are trending closer and closer together, lasting long and much heavier. I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced something like this with Copaxone.
Also, I am considering Mirena IUD as a solution. (Not for pregancy... his had that taken care of.) If anyone has any insight on this topic as well, I would be interested.
Thank you for your time!
Tracy

Mirena
Hi Tracy- I recently started back on Copaxone after 2 years on Tysabri. I have a Mirena IUD for heavy periods. For me it has been horrible. I have had it in for 1 year and will be having it taken out next week. I spot ALL THE TIME I may have a few days each month with no brown or bloody discharge . I am thinking of having an endometrial ablation procedure.
Good Luck

Tracy -- The description of your periods reminds me of what mine were. I suggest that you discuss the possibility of endometriosis with your doctor (This was my problem.).
By the way, endometriosis is considered one of the "autoimmune diseases." (There are more than 80 in the autoimmune category.) It is not uncommon for someone diagnosed with one autoimmune disease (MS, for example) to receive the diagnosis of a second or third " autoimmune disease."
My endometriosis occurred LONG before I took Copaxone. There was no possible connection between period irregularities and taking Copaxone for me.

I don't know if Copaxone has effected my cycle....I always had irregular periods but I never charted them.
Having done so my cycle can be anywhere between 22-39 days. They are getting heavier and troublesome. I am not sure if it's my age or something else...I'm 38.

Re: Copaxone and Monthly Cycle?
I have endometriosis so my monthly cycle was bad before I started copax.... I have noticed though that I am in less pain every month.
Re: Copaxone and Monthly Cycle?
reading through the posts in this topic I am quite curious....as my cycle has done the complete opposite.....since being on Copaxone I have noticed a huge gap in my cycles....sometimes as much as 3 or 4 months. They are really heavy, but that has always been a problem for me.....

This is kind of along the same subject but not directly. Have any of you found that exacerbations follow the same kind of timeline as your cycle?
I brought this up to my neuro and he told me that it was "inconsequential information" although in my case it seems pretty evident. Is it just me?!

I haven't noticed a change in my cycle (I've beeno n copaxone for 3 months), but I do feel like I had a little MS flare last week because of my period. It scared me. I'm wondering if that has happened to anyone else?

I guess I should have read all of the posts before I posted the EXACT same thing. I had the same thing happen last week and it scared me. My dr said it could have been an increase in body temp due to my period? It got better when my period calmed down.kibibikel wrote:This is kind of along the same subject but not directly.
