Re: Chicago appointments
Still haven't heard from Chicago? (Though you should hear from Chicago, not me, re specific scheduling, I can check into this for you if you still haven't heard. Please PM me.)David1949 wrote:I sent in all the required info on 12/14 but have not heard anything back yet.anamishguy wrote:Has anyone going to Chicago received an appt date yet? Patrice, early January? Good luck!!!
Although I believe I've answered your question by email I thought I'd share here that either LaGuardia or Kennedy is fine and pretty much equidistant for Brooklyn.newlywed4ever wrote:Now that Christmas is over, I can concentrate on my trip to Brooklyn... Can anyone tell me which airport I should be flying in to (Laguardia, JFK, Newark)? Thanks!
Thanks, Cece, but slight update here: We're now doing all our ultrasounds for Dr. Sclafani at 577 Prospect Avenue in Brooklyn with our own ultrasound tech who's been trained in Barrie.Cece wrote:This amused me, it's from TripAdvisor, "Brooklyn Forum: Best airport to use to get to Park Slope." Each airport was suggested a few times, no real consensus, but maybe it depends on if you're taking a taxi or the subway. http://tinyurl.com/36hhxue
I_Hate_MS, you'll have to verify with Holly, but yes they're set up to take Medicare. Testing is the doppler ultrasound done at King's County Hospital. Are you close enough that you might want testing only and then waiting on the procedure itself?
Anamishguy, yes, I know someone who is set to be treated by Dr. Makris of AAC in Chicago, in fact I am on pins-and-needles to hear how it goes!
My dear Cece, I can honestly say that no more than a few days have gone by at a time since I scheduled you without my worrying about, if not inquiring about, your insurance clearing. Despite the projected January clearance, your insurance hasn't cleared yet but I figure we still have a little time before rescheduling, the month is yet young. However if you would like to reschedule now we certainly can; please PM me.Cece wrote:Quick, someone snatch up the 11th or 12th! Those are a Tuesday and a Wednesday, not the usual M/F/S.
Dear Holly, I know you are perhaps toxically overworked (!) and in dire need of that assistant. The status of my insurance company must be low on the list of priorities and I don't think you have an answer yet. But when you do, shoot me an email, ok? Day or night....
FOR EVERYONE:
1. There is currently one January date still available for treatment with Dr. Sclafani; it's Wednesday, January 12th. Your ultrasound, assuming you need one, would be done Monday, January 10th at 577 Prospect Avenue in Brooklyn. The treatment (venography and angio) would be at 2025 Richmond Avenue in Staten Island. (Brooklyn treatments are Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays at this point.) Please PM me immediately if interested, but be aware that in Staten Island we can only currently accommodate patients who are either self-paying or have Medicare.
2. It might help to clarify for all that since Dr. Sclafani is now utilizing two new-to-him facilities we have to wait for the lengthy new insurance credentialing submisstions to clear. Here's what's cleared to-date for Brooklyn (where he's doing almost all his treatments):
Cigna
Comprehensive Care Management Corporation
Empire BC/BS
MagnaCare
Medicaid
Medicare
MultiPlan/PHCS
UHC Empire Plan
FYI it's $10,000 for each procedure under any circumstances. AAC doctors outside of New York are $7,500.eric593 wrote:So, for those that are having/have had a 2nd procedure with Dr. Sclafani, is it $10K as well? And that includes everything? Or is it less for subsequent procedures? Or does it depend whether Dr. Sclafani did the first procedure himself?
Does anyone know if all the doctors in the AAC network are charging the same amount?
Doing all I can to take care of Hannakat. Currently waiting to hear back from her in response to my answer to her latest PM.Cece wrote:hannakat hang in there....
Holly, are you taking care of hannakat? She was on the original list, #36, loooong long ago....

Cece, I haven't contacted you about your insurance previously, before your question here, because there still is time for your insurance to clear! (And if not we'll reschedule.)Cece wrote:![]()
I am sad about my insurance.
Oh, the drama of this all! Thanks Holly for stopping by and updating us on all of this!

AAC costs
Is the $7500 for everything? No hidden fees, you walk in pay $7500 and get the procedure and walk out. Who prescribes the blood thinner?

Re: AAC costs
I should probably put in as a caveat that there may be some variations in local practice and the overall information I give you here as a general guide should be verified locally. However I believe that a pre-procedure ultrasound, venography and angio are included in the self-pay price for those not covered by insurance that we've been discussing. Anti-coagulants, and also pre-procedure bloodwork to determine things like serum creatinine levels are not.anamishguy wrote:Is the $7500 for everything? Re: AAC costs
This is important to be aware of - the anticoagulant Arixtra is expensive and it's an additional out of pocket expense.HollyBarr wrote:Anti-coagulants, and also pre-procedure bloodwork to determine things like serum creatinine levels are not.
