Dr. Makris 5th procedure

I had my procedure today. 75% stenosis on the left and 50% on the right. Azygous and illiac are ok. Resting for a few days and then I'll be better able to tell if I have improvements. I would highly recommend Dr. Makris and all of his staff at Chicago Access center.

Dr. Makris is following Dr. Sclafani's procedure method, having been trained by the Brooklyn maestro.

Before my procedure my right leg would feel like a log after working all day and then taking a short walk. I went to the grocery after work and then came home and walked about a half mile and the leg still felt good. I still am having fatigue, but have been told that the Arixtra (blood thinner) can cause that. I am hoping in another week and a half I will be able to report that the fatigue is gone. I also walked heel to toe with no shoes about 20 feet the other day. I had some trouble with that prior to my procedure. I will update if I have any changes before I am finished with the blood thinner.

I had my follow up 1 month with Dr. Makris today. My jugulars are flowing normally. I was able to walk 1 mile last week with no problem. I walked .6 of a mile last night on the treadmill at the hotel and then did .25 miles on the elliptical and then a mile on the recumbent bike and still walked without feeling like my leg was dragging. My fatigue is not much better, but I am able to get thru the day without any drugs besides the aspirin and some caffeine. He is very excited about CCSVI and it shows.

Does anyone have any experience filing an appeal with an insurance company? My insurance company said the procedure would be covered before my appointment and I just found out today 3 months post CCSVI procedure they are not covering. I can file an appeal, but I will need overwhelming evidence on my side. Any help would be appreciated.

I have my 3 month follow up 1 week from tomorrow and I am still doing well. I went hiking with the family yesterday. We hiked around 3 miles and I did not have any problems. I don't know if I will have a 6 months check up if the insurance is not going to cover it. I hope I am still doing well enough to feel good about skipping it if that would be the case.

Do you have anything in writing from the insurance company stating you were covered (before the procedure was undertaken)?

Perhaps legal council is necessary?

It sounds like your procedure was necessary, warranted, and successful.
