Lactoferrin may protect B cells from ebv infection

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

The best I could get was an Australian brand called Bioceuticals which is a "behind the counter" brand. I get what they are doing. If you look at infant formula it's really heavy on Vitamin A which breast milk would normally provide. I assume they think should try to make a tablet with similar features. They wouldn't be thinking of hitting EBV. When I looked at a number of sites for dosing information I just came away confused. Suck it and see, I guess. It probably is a good thing to take with Valtrex from time to time but we will see.

Experiment starts today. The next week is two Valtrex per day plus 5 Lactoferrin tablets in the morning. I am particularly well at the moment so I can't blame anything else if I have a reaction.

A bit of interesting info has come my way...based on lab results of just one mser (not me), I'm thinking we might have highish lactoferrin levels anyway. What that means in this context...I don't know...

Day 3 now.

I've noticed a slight tightening in my throat and I'm prone to booming headaches but don't feel unwell as such. I have a tendancy to be feel apprehensive which I have never experienced before. All I can conclude is it doing something but I don't know what. I'm looking forward to the end of the first week.

Welcome to the strange symptom club?? Sorry it's not going so well. I wonder what it's doing! I guess it's a good sign your lips aren't tingling?? Maybe backing off the huge dose will help??

??? Lol

I suspect the new iron supplement isn't working (no head weirdness but getting a bit tired after working now) so it'll be a bit longer before I figure out what's going on and try the lactoferrin myself again.

Hope the rest of the week passes quickly too. :)

I suspect it is doing exactly what it is suppossed to do which is strengthen the immune response. If I have a few bugs they will be unbound and vulnerable to the immune system, particularly in the prescence of Valacyclovir. I guess the lesson is don't do this unless you have already identified infections and dealt with them or the herx could be ugly.

Could be that...or could be some strange iron regulatory thing...or probably a million other things we don't know about lactoferrin yet. I've finally learned not to assume anything is certain about anything anymore. :P Do you think the high dose is necessary to fight ebv? Could it be done more gradually with a smaller dose?

Some junk thoughts...

About your throat tightening, one of the things that changed for me after the rituxan is pills no longer got stuck in my throat. I wonder if ebv doesn't hide out there and cause swelling (I'm tonsil free). Maybe the tightness in your throat is a sign of local attack?

Throat tightening and apprehensiveness...is there such a thing as mild anaphylaxis?

Oh and the mser with high lactoferrin in um...solid sample...also has elevated h pylori. That could be the cause of high lactoferrin there.

I'm not sure the lactoferrin is actually fighting the EBV itself. It just stops it binding which leaves the virus exposed and the immune system should then take up the fight. The Valacyclovir should also help because it disrupts the RNA of the virus by inserting a stop in the codan.
I wish I knew on the dose question. All I've done is follow the recommendation on the bottle.
EBV is lymphoproliferative so the tissues around the tonsil area is exactly where it wants to be.
I had my tonsils out when I was 40 and then a partial resection of the soft pallet because the tissues were so engorged. The surgeon said my tonsils were "disgusting bags of puss". I wish they had been biopsied but that never happened. That leaves me wondering whether I derived a benefit from all that tissue being removed. Who knows.
At lunchtime I went to an Osteo who did a lot of work massaging my neck and shoulder areas which should have moved some toxins out of the area. Headache is better now. I think it may be a die off. (EBV etc not me!!)

After a hunt via Google I'm starting think it might be a Candida die off. Lactoferrin is strongly anti candida so that fits as does the headache and I suspect the smell. As I'm generally pretty well I hope this will pass reasonably quickly. It's no bad thing if this is what is happening but I'll be happy when it passes. Maybe someone has experienced this and could confirm.

Can I just say I really appreciate it when a man is aware of his own stench? Lol. You've just gone up several points in my book. :D

Day 4 nearly over and I feel better. Maybe Day 3 was the worst of it. I helped push a car that had broken down off the road and I found that more draining than expected. The headaches are very mild and the awful anxious feeling is almost gone.

I also smell beautiful today. Yesterday it was somewhere between "garlic soaked taxi driver" and "garbage truck". I wonder why it happened.

Day 5.

I'm going to drop the Valacyclovir and stay with the Lactoferrin. My muscles tell me I have enough antiviral. When they stiffen up if I am immobile for too long I always improve if I cut the Valtrex back. I suspect it indicates I'm a bit toppy on uric acid.
I think the headaches are past but I still have a marginal tight lump in my throat. Nothing else to worry about.

Two days left! I wonder if the lump in your throat will go away before you stop. Curious stuff!

I've still got this issue of flattening my battery if I exert myself. I do recover but I need to take some time. Normally I'm busting with energy. I still have a mild (very mild) headache.

I really don't know what to make of it all!
