Handicap permit

Hello all, I am wondering if it is difficult to obtain a handicap parking permit? I will be starting back at school soon and had trouble last semester having to park far away from the building. I called my specialist to see if she believes I will qualify, but I want to know if anyone else has had luck with this while I wait for her to get back to me.

I suppose I should add that I have a significant foot drop on my left foot as well as left sided weakness. I use a carbon fiber afo at this time and I do walk with an odd gate due to the severity of my foot drop (I walk normally with my R leg, but I sort of "march" with my L leg to bring my foot off the ground).

I'm not sure where you live, but in my state I only had to fill out a very simple application at our local Bureau of Motor Vehicles (consisting of just my basic info) and hand them a prescription from a doctor -- in my case I just used my GP. Doctors are used to this, and can write them for any number of health reasons at their discretion.

The placards are only $3.50 and the BMV encouraged me to get a second one to carry around in case I was riding in someone else's car. They're good for several years and when I needed a renewal I just called my doc's office and they had a new prescription ready for me to pick up to take with me when I renewed my license tags.

I'm sure you can find the rules for your area (or country) online easily or just call your local BMV. I even found the application online in a matter of seconds just now.

Thank you for the reply, I actually just heard back from my specialist and she said I absolutely qualify due to my issues. She thought I already had a permit. I didn't know if I would qualify seeing as how I am only 27 and I may look practically "normal" to some on the outside (aside from my afo/gait). Oh how I wish they could be me for a day I can feel the stares and whispers already, but I just don't care anymore, I need the help!
