Clotting disorders and MS

Hi
I have been sent for tests to find out why I keep having miscarriages. I know Hughes syndrome is a nice outcome to get if you've MS, but sadly I have tested negative for Hughes, and thankfully, negative for Lupus.
But I have been told today I have another clotting disorder, but I'll find out which one on tues (dontcha love the medical profession!)
My head is in a whirl...

Normally I'm a whizz at finding any medical info, but now I'm just useless....does anyone know if non-Hughes and non-Lupus blood disorders have any bearing on MS? I can't help but wonder if a clotting disorder might have mimicked MS sometimes or caused more problems in conjunction with MS. And how will treating a clotting problem effect MS?

Sorry, I know I will just probably have to wait until Tues for the real results....but it's so upsetting to find I've MS AND another thing (as well as hearing loss, coeliac disease, asthma and recurrent miscarriage) - put me down now!

I'm sorry to hear that WW. We've talked about this a couple of times and everytime it's just long enough that I've had time enough to forget most everything I'd read about Hughes....

I looked back on the last time and you reminded me that Hughes is Autoimmune, which fits with the other autoimmunes you have. It sure seems to be a flashing beacon that Hughes is known for miscarriages and I DO remember reading that there were a lot of false negatives involved in Hughes testing.

It seems that with this clotting problem they're going to put you on blood thinners so if you notice remarkable improvements in the following weeks, maybe they'd better rethink Hughes.

Interesting... I've had three miscarriages myself, as well as post partum hemorrhaging and lots of nasty bleeding and clotting with both deliveries and D&Cs due to miscarriages. They talked about getting a work-up for a clotting disorder but I never had it done. It'd be interesting to know how many women with MS have had these problems. At any rate, my heart goes out to you.

thanks so much for your replies.

Well Bob, I dunno if I have clotting too much, or clotting too little, and I'll find that out next week. So it may be aspirin/heparin/warfarin or it might be the opposite....hmmm! I know that I have got a positive to one of the tests, and that I'm being sent to hereditary clotting disorders clinic so I think Hughes is off the list of possibilities now, and it's definitely something else that must equally cause miscarriages. Just when I thought I'd a handle on all my peculiarities, another thing comes along!

Sorry you've been through three mc too Connie, it's a dreadful time. Maybe you should check it out, but it's stressful enough waiting for results, isin't it? Thanks for the msg of support.

I know the results aren't always something you want to share but when you find out what is going on, and you feel that the diagnosis is correct, I'd be interested to know.

Good question, hopefully what you find out next week will answer that. As far as the miscarriages...I personally have never read of higher incidence due to MS in and of itself.

Hi Bob
as promised, just home from hospital and said I'd tell you what the results for clotting were.
I have low titers of ANA (1/80) and a possible Protein S deficiency, but both may have been abmormal because the blood was taken just after my pregnancy loss.
I had further bloods taken last week, and it will be another 6 weeks before there are results for them, but they will show up any true disease....so it's 'wait and see' for me....

Thanks for getting back about that WW. I suppose it wouldn't provide enough suspense if they determined the answer in a shorter time period
