Re: Hello
hmm what's driving that question? i would have said touching up forms of magnesium used and optimizing zinc status would be my first go tos where loose stool or diarrhea is concerned.

I am %100 sure that this is because some kind of bacteria or virus. Some of my friends used saccharomyces boulardii. I need to know if it is ms-safe or not.

Re: Hello
entirely possible it's infectious. low zinc has a negative impact on the gut microbiome. optimizing zinc has a positive impact on the composition of the gut microbiota.
research is getting there:
Excess iron intake as a factor in growth, infections, and development of infants and young children (oct 2017)
http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/early ... 2.abstract
The provision of iron via supplementation or the fortification of foods has been shown to be effective in preventing and treating iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia in infants and young children. However, iron is a pro-oxidative element and can have negative effects on biological systems even at moderate amounts. An increasing number of studies have reported adverse effects of iron that was given to infants and young-children populations who initially were iron replete. These effects include decreased growth (both linear growth and weight), increased illness (usually diarrhea), interactions with other trace elements such as copper and zinc, altered gut microbiota to more pathogenic bacteria, increased inflammatory markers, and impaired cognitive and motor development. If these results can be confirmed by larger and well-controlled studies, it may have considerable programmatic implications (e.g., the necessity to screen for iron status before interventions to exclude iron-replete individuals). A lack of understanding of the mechanisms underlying these adverse outcomes limits our ability to modify present supplementation and fortification strategies. This review summarizes studies on the adverse effects of iron on various outcomes; suggests possible mechanisms that may explain these observations, which are usually made in clinical studies and intervention trials; and gives examples from animal models and in vitro studies. With a better understanding of these mechanisms, it may be possible to find novel ways of providing iron in a form that causes fewer or no adverse effects even when subjects are iron replete. However, it is apparent that our understanding is limited, and research in this area is urgently needed.

I use Garden of Life's protein mix. I don't know if it's "MS safe," but it's plant based and unsweetened.Zyklon wrote:I need to increase my protein intake and maintain my cholesterol. Whey and soy protein is not good. Any ideas? I am currently at 60-80 grams of protein daily. I need to double it. I can use an "MS-Safe" protein supplement.

Re: Hello
I checked the Vitacost site. They ship internationally to Turkey using DHL Global Mail. The estimated cost is about $10 US for one protein canister. I don't know what's available to you, but it might be more cost effective to see if you can find a similar product locally.
This is Vitacost's fine print on shipping to Turkey.

Hi,
Soy protein is good for general health. For gaining muscle, soy protein powders are not. Above 50 grams daily.
I don't want anything that decreases testosterone and changes thyroid functions.

Re: Hello
Small updates:
Winter is here, mild throat infection with 37.5-38 degrees Celcius fever. I don't take paracetamol to lower it because I don't want to use antibiotics. I let my body fight it. So far it is stable. I was diagnosed after taking IV antibiotics. Antibiotics scare me and it will be last resort.
Gym is going good. 3 days every week. 67 kilograms body weight (176 cm tall) and %17 body fat. I really push my limits but watch my heart rate and core temperature. I told a friend my story and he was shocked. I am going to try brown rice protein powder.
https://draxe.com/brown-rice-protein-powder/
I believe resistance/weight training is extremely important for recovery. It looks like it will be a hot topic in the next years.

I will repeat my tests 2 months later. Still considering phlebotomy for better cholesterol and ferritin. Take care ;)

A Review of Dietary Selenium Intake and Selenium Status in Europe and the Middle East
free full text: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4377864/
excerpt
3.2.2. Selenium Status Studies: Middle Eastern Countries
Se status studies throughout the Middle East provided varying results. Even within the same country, this variability was apparent. ... The highest serum Se in normal/control subjects was found in Lebanon (151.2 μg/L) [112], and the lowest was reported in Turkey in school children from an endemic goitre area (31 ± 23 μg/L) [45].
The majority of studies from Turkey indicated that the population had suboptimal Se status [23,45,103,104,132,133,135] if 90.01 μg of Se/L of plasma or serum is the assumed requirement for full plasma GPx expression [7]. However, two studies reported plasma [134] and serum [136] Se concentrations slightly above 120 μg/L.
Dietary habits and selenium, glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant status in the serum of patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis

Serum Se concentration and GSH-Px activity in the serum of patients with MS (55.2±16.2 μg/L, 6676.1±2386.4 U/L; respectively) were significantly decreased (p<0.01, p<0.05; respectively) compared with control group (79.2±20.6 μg/L, 8029.9±2650.1 U/L; respectively)
