There are lawyers that specialize in this and don't charge a fee (upfront or otherwise). They do all the paperwork for you and handle all communications with the social security administration. The way this is handled, you do not need a local office/attorney to handle this. Do a search online. There are many choices.
It is also very important that you have a good doctor who has excellent documentation on you.
