Herb Garden
Herb Garden
Does anyone have any suggestions for items to grow in my outdoor herb garden?
Also, what would you do with some of the herbs you suggest.
Last year I grew:
Basil
Feverfew
Rosemary
Catnip
Cilantro
Peppermint
Spearmint
Lemon Thyme
Oregano
Flat Leaf Parsley
Bee Balm
Mostly just for the beauty of the herb garden.

Well an update on my raised bed garden....
I had some fabulous spinach and lettuce.
Radishes did not fare so well. Nor did any of my peppers.
Cucumbers look great and I have them climbing instead of running on the ground. Really cool. I just pulled one and will have it at lunch.
Tomatoes are hugh
The plants are like 7 feet tall!! And so yummy!! I planted an heirloom called Black Crimson and the flavor is so different that I can't explain. Everyone needs to try those. We also planted Marions, Early Girls, Parks Whopper (yum), Beefsteak, Big Boy, Better Boy, Cherry and Grape tomatoes. And Roma...
Although some of my Roma's have blossom rot. I pull those and chunck them in the trash. They are only about 4 feet tall. None of the Roma's are ripe yet. I love these on a salad.
I also have some Carrots that are not ready yet. They may end up like my Radishes.
Almost forgot the Broccoli too.
And my Herb Garden is thriving.

Cat I am so envious of the sound of your herb garden, it sounds wonderful.
I am growing chives, rosemary, fennel, thyme, & mint. A few green tomatoes, some beans and some squash. It's a long uphill slog against the onslaught of slugs and snails though...at the moment we are getting day after day of torrential rain so I'm afraid I might be losing the war!
Do you have a photo of your garden? It sounds so nice.....

Well, it may be a little late for this year, but how about dill?
I use dill on baked salmon (or any other fish), potato salad, chicken salad, and refrigerator dill pickles.

Hi Mamacita,
when having dill together with white fish, I specially like to combine it with slices of cucumber.
So you roast the fish in a pan on one side, then turn it around, and on the roasted side you put some salted slices of cucumber and sprinkle them with dill.
I think thats a great combo!

carrots and radishes

sounds like you have a fantastic garden.
I'm on my first since living in a real house 10 years ago.
Just Tomatoes though. Mine are 7 ft too.
You probably know this but your carrots and radishes should be done in a sandy soil. That will help bigtime.
Also, if you really want to enhance the flavour of your tomatoes try some oak leaf mulch. It will bring up the acidity but oh so good.
