Massaging my Neck... any comments ?

Post by ozarkcanoer »

OK.... While are all waiting for Zamboni's newest paper, lets talk about something out of the box !! When I was a little girl my father had poor circulation in his legs. So my mother would massage his legs with a vibrating massager. I guess this was a mechanical way to make the blood flow up his legs.

So now I have started massaging my own neck, LOL. If I have stenosed veins (and I don't know if I do or not) then it might make sense to massage the muscles of the neck to get the venous blood to flow down faster.

I do a pretty deep massage and by golly I feel better, LOL. I use lotion so I can get a really deep massage.

I feel better... my headaches and fatigue seem less. Placebo effect, relaxation, or am I really getting my blood to flow faster ??!!! LOLOLOL

Well OK then! I guess it could have some effect if you had pressure from tight muscles...LOL

honest though good strategy for waiting? Seems like if can't hurt if done properly. keep thinnish blood, do massage, I'd vote for that as a good wait and see plan

I've been kneading the back of my neck and nbase of skull for quite some time now, well before CCSVI and the jugular connection came across my radar ... hopefully it helps, if nothing else it relaxes those muscles a bit, which feel seized up somewhat, oftentimes ...

Interesting topic. I often find myself pressing my hand, HARD, against the back of my neck when I'm sitting for an extended time. I hold it until my hand gets too tired. I'll have to try to evaluate just why it feels so good, but I know that it makes my head feel better.

Yeah, in addition ot massage, I also push the back of my head forward with the heels of my hands, fingers interlaced, making the neck pop and crack ... releated? Maybe!

Sounds logical to me. Have had neck and shoulder problems and feel this can be stress related, holding tension in these muscles. I guess learning to meditate would help relax the muscles and therefore get the blood flowing. It's probably all connected.

Interesting people reporting neck and shoulder tensions...

I started to go to a massage therapist with intermittent tensions in my neck and shoulders 4 yrs before I got diagnosed in 10/07. Always felt a relief after those sessions… Three weeks before my major attack that lead to the diagnosis, I had a “locked” neck for about a week that I could not contribute to anything I had done.

At the time of the dx in 07 I mentioned to the neuro about my stiff neck by coincidence while talking about my condition and apparently he picked up on this and ordered mri’s on the front and back of my neck in addition to the brain. Result: numerous lesions in the brain, throat and neck mri's were spotless though.
At that time I had no clue and made no connections. Later I asked my neuro about the stiffness I had (and still experience regularly) in my neck and he said it was probably not ms related or he didn’t know since my neck mri’s were clean.

Well, I have some clues now what it might be… :?
