No deposit, just patience... As I say things may be happening in North America before then.

I just heard back from Dr. Simka and the reply was that the waiting list for the endovascular treatment in the Euromedic Centre in Katowice Poland is over a year long so they cannot place any more patients on that wait list. However, they will prepare a new center in order to manage new patients, hopefully by the end of 2010.

Not encouraging news in my case as that is a long time away and my body continues to wreak havoc on itself. However, I am hopeful that in the meantime other centers may open up closer to home in North America.

Off to Poland in June

Post by layniesmom »

Hi all!

I don't post very often, but I definitely get alot out of reading your threads.
I have an appointment in June with Dr. Simka. However, he has yet to come to me with a specific date. How much warning has he been giving people? A couple of months maybe? Does anyone know how many patients he's done? Also, how long is a person required to stay in Poland after the procedure? Any insight would be terrific!

Communications with Dr Simka have been very few and far between, until recently the doctors were doing all the admin themselves, but I heard the other day that they now have an administrator which might speed things up a bit. They have not been very quick at informing people about the final dates for their appointments, from what I have heard from other people it appears to be more like two weeks rather than two months. They do recommend that you stay about a week in total, 3 days post operatively.
No one knows how many patients he has done at the moment, all we can say is that people who have been report that they are doing about two people a day, so 10 a week. So I would say that they have now done well into the hundred.

Marsha,

If this gives you an idea, I am scheduled see Dr. Simka in April. I would say that out of 25 of us April-ers, roughly 5-8 of us have specific dates right now.

Hi Marsha,
I'm also to see Dr. Simka in April, but I asked for late April and don't have a specific date yet. I think most people are getting two months notice unless they have said that they'll take a date earlier that comes up due to a cancellation. If you are looking for assurance, contact the Patient Coordinator, Euromedic Poland [info@euromedicpoland.com]. That is the new contact point for Dr. Simka's patients and I assume that she (Alicja Ossolinska) will be able to answer your questions.

Hi,
I am due to see Simka at the end of March.
I emailed him about the details and havent heard back so I used the above email address and this is the reply I got...

"Thank you for your interest in our program and registering for the treatment in EuroMedic.

We would like to inform you that we are currently doing our best to finalize
all the necessary arrangements concerning your stay in Poland. We will keep
you posted about the schedule of your stay in the near future.

We kindly ask you to pay the full price of the treatment together with the
logistics package (treatment, accommodation and transport - 6.900 euro in
total) via bank transfer at least 21 days before the day of your arrival.
You will be given the account number and all the necessary details in the
nearest future."

Is this right? It doesnt seem like my dates are confirmed when simka emailed them to me himself!

Has anyone else had this?
Should I worry as my plane tickets are booked!

Hi,
I have tried calling but all I get told is to email him.
Could this have been a dodgy email address?

Xia,

I really don't know what to suggest, but that email looks automated to me.

Simka is definitely in Canada, I've had an email from him yesterday (check the threads)

I'm sure he'll get back to you. He is in Poland again on Tuesday.

Hi Zia

We spoke briefly about this before I saw the developments on this thread. I think that in your position I would just stick with the e-mail address of Dr Simka that you know - even if his replies are slow.

xia, all you have to do is google 'whois' and you can find that stuff out about many sites. sometimes middlemen can be hiding who the real person/s behind a site might be (such as godaddy in the case of TIMS).
