Who has had a mobility scooter provided by their insurance?

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Who has had a mobility scooter provided by their insurance?

Post by Nenebird54 »

I have been going through hell trying to get a mobility scooter. I feel like I must be a dolt. HMO's in CA are concerned for cost first.

My request has been in since December. I have gotten the run around since then. I will keep trying but my Neurologist has warned me that my HMO will likely find a way to deny my request. Their basis will be some scam of an excuse, but I will be expected to some how purchase one on my own.

Curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through such a hard time trying to get a mobility scooter provided by insurance. Unfortunately, you would need to be much worse off closer to bedridden to get one of those paid by insurance. I myself often use a manual wheel chair. Its a little more work than a power scooter but it is much easier than walking. I can not walk very far. Often I use the manual wheel chair when I can. When I go grocery shopping most places have a power chair which I always use for grocery shopping. I try to hit the stores first thing in the morning to be sure I get the power chair. If I go clothing shopping I use the manual chair as they do not have power chairs their for me. A little more work with the manual chair however, so much easier sitting down. Takes a little longer however, much easier than trying to walk. Waiting in line I don't really care I am already sitting down. While other people are pissed of with the wait I don't care I am sitting down and getting some rest waiting in line. A new wheel chair is $500 to purchase without insurance however, you can often find wheel chairs on craigslist used for as little as $20 you should not need to pay more than $120 way to much. $20 you should be able to find just keep a look out. A new power scooter is $1200 but You should be able to find a used one on line for $200 at least the manual wheel chair keep a look out and you should be able to find a used one for $20.

good luck my friend
