Is Multiple Sclerosis Caused By Emotional Stress?
Re: Is Multiple Sclerosis Caused By Emotional Stress?
The concept of "the stress-disease connection" is well known and Dr. Gabor Maté's theory is as good/sound as all the other major other theories on the causes of MS. He is not the first to make this suggestion/connection - few will disagree that the elimination of stress AFTER a diagnosis of MS is extremely important.

Re: Is Multiple Sclerosis Caused By Emotional Stress?
The harmful effects of stress on the gut and on our circulating catecholamines (activating hormones) and blood glucose/insulin levels could certainly trigger or worsen a relapse (true for me), but I agree that stress cannot be thought of as a CAUSE of MS. I don’t read Mate’s research as suggesting this. He seems to be just making the observation that very high stress often preceeds an episode that leads to MS diagnosis. I would guess that in most of those PwMS, there was evidence of the disease being present long before the diagnosis.
